I inspected the Crown, which was really quite bewitching with its gold flames and precious pearls. I tried to communicate with it somehow, tried to absorb some of its unique magic, but my energy was bouncing off the glass, which seemed to have some kind of enchantment on it. Another goblin walked past with his hands behind his back. He was wearing a gray business suit, and spectacles, and I waited for him to go before I carried on staring at the Crown in what I’m sure was a highly suspicious way. In my mind, there was no way to tell if the thing was real or not, so I’d have to just risk it, and run. Another goblin appeared: this one was wearing shades, a Hawaiian shirt, and a backpack, as if he’d just walked off the plane from Maui. I had to work fast. I surreptitiously unclipped my wand from my belt. If I wanted to get away with this, I’d have to be nimble. I ran through the relevant spells in my head, and my heart started thrumming. Another goblin popped up, a blond-wigged one in a summer dress, and I wondered if I was being paranoid (again) or if the gobs really were multiplying like wet gremlins right in front of my eyes.
